After an impressive show by the bowlers, Bengal’s batters also stepped up, putting the team in a commanding position against Assam in their Ranji Trophy Group C match at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani.
By the end of Day 2 on Monday, Bengal were comfortably placed at 267/4, holding a solid 67-run lead. Assam had resumed their first innings from 194/8 earlier in the day and were bowled out for 200.
With three points almost sealed, the current table-toppers now have a great opportunity to strengthen their lead even further. After the day’s play, head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla said,
“We’ve done what we needed to do. Now it’s time to finish the job.”
Bengal had an early setback when Sudip Gharami fell cheaply for just seven runs. However, captain Abhimanyu Easwaran (66) and wicketkeeper-batter Shakir Habib Gandhi (58) stabilized the innings with a crucial 122-run partnership, giving Bengal the momentum they needed.
