Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on 7th July 1981, in Ranchi, Bihar (presently in Jharkhand). He was the youngest of his three siblings.
His family’s actual surname was ‘Dhauni’, but due to a spelling mistake in school certificates, the surname was spelled ‘Dhoni’. Even after repeated attempts to correct the mistake, it couldn’t be corrected.
He studied in DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir. There, he started playing football as a goalkeeper, but he later shifted to cricket, on the suggestion of his coach Keshav Banerjee.
He had worked as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) at Kharagpur from the year 2001 to 2003.
On 4th July 2010, he married Sakshi Singh Rawat in Dehradun. They had a daughter Ziva Dhoni on 6th February 2015.
